The Lexington Black Widows Rugby Football Club (RFC) was established in 2015 in Lexington, KY.
We proudly welcome anyone who wants to play rugby and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all our players to thrive.
How We Play
FALL & SPRING - Fifteens (XV)
This classic form of rugby features 15 players from each team on the field, with matches consisting of two 40-minute halves. A team scores five points for a "try" when a player crosses the goal line and touches the ball to the ground, followed by a kick for an additional two points.
Unlike many other sports, all players on the field participate in both offense and defense. There are forwards, who are big and strong, and backs, who are typically lighter and faster. The wide range of positions and skills required means there is a role for every body shape and size on the pitch!
SUMMER - Sevens (7s)
This shorter, faster version of rugby has rapidly gained popularity since its addition to the Olympic Games in 2016. 7s follows most of the same rules as XVs but features only 7 players from each team on the field. Games are shorter, with 7-minute halves, and are typically played tournament-style, with 3-5 games in a day.
While high-level 7s is geared towards very fast athletes, we also have a more social 7s side and encourage all players to participate. It’s a great way to increase stamina, play rugby, and have fun!
